2019. Winter was mild and dry. Spring frost struck three times and mainly caused damage to our Chardonnay vines, hence the predominance of the Pinots in this cuvee. For four generations Ca’ del Baio has been a family affair, as is the tradition in the Langhe, nurtured and passed down from father to son. The family has been at home here since 1870 when the great-grandfather of the actual owner Giulio, purchased the land Barbaresco where still today they live and work. Ca' del Baio is run today by the parents Giulio and Luciana, together with their daughters Paola, Valentina and Federica.
The winery counts about 28 hectares of vineyards spread over Barbaresco production area and is in the middle of the vineyards in a gorgeous sort of natural amphitheater.

The 2021 Barbaresco Asili is one of the most beautiful, pure wines I have ever tasted from Ca' del Baio. Lifted aromatics and bright red-toned fruits are classic Asili signatures. The tannins will need a bit of time to soften, but all the elements are impeccably balanced. This is impressive stuff, and a gorgeous wine.

The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Asili is a wine of pure and total sensuality. Light on its feet, gracious and perfumed, the 2017 is all class. Sweet rose petal, spice, mint, dried flowers, anise and blood orange give the 2017 striking aromatic complexity, but it is the translucence of the Nebbiolo fruit that I most admire here.
