Marthe Henry Boillot is a passionate winemaker based in Meursault, where she operates from the historic cellars of her grandparents' Domaine Pierre Boillot. Despite starting her career as a journalist, Marthe was drawn back to her roots in winemaking, inspired by fond memories of holidays with her grandfather. In 2013, she returned to Meursault and began her journey in viticulture, learning from esteemed vignerons such as Caroline l’Estime and working at Domaine Rougeot. In 2017, she established her own micro-négociant business, initially producing just 12 barrels.
Marthe's winemaking philosophy is deeply connected to the land and the vines, focusing on quality and minimal intervention. She sources must and grapes from friends who share her commitment to organic viticulture, with 80% of her grapes either organic or in conversion. Her wines, which spend up to 18 months in old barrels without racking, are crafted with a preference for using minimal or no sulfur, only adding it if absolutely necessary. The reds are vinified with whole clusters, enhancing their complexity and character.
Last year (2023) Marthe regained access to her family's vineyards, including plots in prestigious appellations like Meursault Charmes and Volnay Santenots-du-Milieu. Her approach is to produce mostly white wines, with a focus on local terroirs from Pommard to Rully. Marthe's wines have already garnered attention for their elegance and purity, making her a rising star in Burgundy's wine scene. With a meticulous and heartfelt approach to winemaking, Marthe Henry Boillot is poised to continue her family's legacy while crafting her own unique path.
