The 2008 Bienvenue-Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru has a lively saline, almost seaweed scented bouquet that is precise and intense. The palate is fresh and lively, perhaps just missing a little weight, but there is a sense of elegance and refinement here, traces of lime and quince enlivening the persistent finish. Excellent.

Very fresh, bright medium yellow. Knockout mineral-saturated scents of lemon cream, lime oil, acacia flower, vanilla, crushed stone, nut oil and iodine. Sappy and vibrant but at the same time utterly seamless, offering a compelling combination of refinement, concentration (especially impressive in light of the year's full yields) and acid balance.

Rather full yellow with a gold tinge. Slightly exotic apricot and yellow peach scents on first sniff, with notes of wet store, lemon zest, mandarin and baked bread. Fat, thick and honeyed on entry but quickly firmed in the mid-palate by an edge of acidity, with strong iodiney minerality emerging on the back half.
