2017, the harvest from Ay, Dizy, Hautvillers (66%) Avize and Oiry (34%). Winter and Spring were exceptionally dry; the beginning of Spring was mild but, in April, destructive frosts ravaged the vineyards, especially in the Côte des Blancs. Temperatures then rose and the weather was good until July. The end of the growing season was hot but very wet. The...
Producer: Bouquin Dupont Fils
A wonderful champagne, 100% Chardonnay of Avize from vineyards more than 60 years old. A base of citrus fruit melted with the scent, and taste, of a custard where there are also two drops of lemon juice. Delicious and enjoyable.
Producer: Jurij Fiore & Figlia
The 2021 Chianti Classico Sonocosì is fresh and light in body, all of which make it a good choice for drinking now and over the next decade or so. This north-facing site at 550 meters in altitude yields a lithe, aromatically expressive Classico loaded with character. Vinification and aging in oak keeps the flavors vibrant.
Producer: Podere Poggio Scalette
The 2019 Il Carbonaione is silky and racy in the glass. Scents of new oak are a clear sign the 2019 doesn't quite have the density of the very best years, but Il Carbonaione has a brilliant track record of aging.
Producer: Podere Poggio Scalette
The 2018 Il Carbonaione is one of the most elegant editions of this flagship wine I can remember tasting. Il Carbonaione is usually a rich, bombastic wine, but the 2018 is sleek, gracious and remarkably refined.
Producer: Podere Poggio Scalette
This is the wine conceived and desired by Vittorio Fiore after long years of study and working experience, and it is the result of an exceptional pairing and synergy: Sangiovese and the Ruffoli vineyards in Greve in Chianti.
Producer: Dehours et Fils
The Champagne Rosè Oeil de Pedrix is the result of an assemblage of Meunier and Chardonnay from old vineyards. Flowery Champagne Rosè Extra Brut, particularly fine and fresh with a very limited production.
Producer: Renato Corino
Rich, heady and exotic in its beauty, Corino's 2016 Barolo Rocche dell'Annunziata is a total stunner. All the elements meld together in a rich, sumptuous Barolo that captures the essence of this great La Morra cru.

The 2017 Barbaresco Riserva Ovello is a heady, explosive wine. I don't think I have ever tasted an Ovello from the Produttori with this much heft. The strong mineral and saline accents typical of this site are present, but they are matched pound for pount by notable mid-palate richness and intensity.
Producer: Bartolo Mascarello
Perfumed, gracious and utterly sublime, the 2012 is all nuance a real treat to taste and drink. How can a wine be so light and yet deliver so much depth and persistence?” That, in a nutshell is what Nebbiolo is all about.
Producer: Aldo Conterno
Searing tannins dominate in the 2013 Barolo Cicala has good depth and persistence in the glass, but I am not sure that is a good thing, as the elements of the wine that are persistent are not at all pleasant.
Producer: Angelo Gaja
The 1998 Sorì San Lorenzo is one of the most pleasant surprises in this tasting. Fresher than the 1997 - even if not as voluptuous - the 1998 captures the best qualities of the year. Smoke, tobacco, menthol, plums and black cherries are all laced together in a silky, perfumed wine that is stunning today. This is a terrific showing from the 1998.
Producer: Giacomo Conterno
The 2015 Barbera d'Alba Francia is fabulous. Silky, supple and radiant, with no hard edges and exceptional balance, the 2015 comes across as a bit shy today, and yet there is so much to like.
Producer: Giacomo Conterno
The 2006 Barolo Cascina Francia is a deep, muscular wine endowed with superb richness, inner perfume and structure. From cask this has always been an intense, inward Barolo and now that it is in bottle, those qualities seem even more prominent. Over time, the classic Cascina Francia bouquet of roses, tar, herbs and licorice comes forward, but only...
Producer: Giuseppe Rinaldi
The 2018 Barolo Tre Tine is a super-classic wine. It reminds so much of a wine Beppe Rinaldi might have made, austere, tuat Barolo built on energy and tension more than prmiary fruit.
Producer: Angelo Gaja
A wine of pure joy, the 1979 Barbaresco Sorì San Lorenzo wraps around the palate with gorgeous fleshiness.
Producer: Produttori del Barbaresco
The 2014 Barbaresco Riserva Rabajà is powerful, dense and explosive, with tremendous intensity of fruit and structure. The Rabajà is a powerful, towering wine endowed with massive structure and intensity to burn.
Producer: Aldo Conterno
Aldo Conterno’s 1982 Granbussia is still powerful, young and structured, it simply dazzles with its pure density. The 1982 makes a very strong argument to be included among the best Granbussia ever made.
Producer: Giacomo Conterno
The 2013 Barolo Riserva Monfortino is brilliant, precise, focused and nuanced, with a classic sense of austerity.2013 is a vibrant Monfortino built along super-classic lines with more finesse that is the result of a the slight refinements.
Producer: Produttori del Barbaresco
The 2015 Barbaresco Riserva Pajè is marked by bright acids and expressive veins of spiciness that lend a much needed kick of energy to a core of translucent Nebbiolo fruit. There is so much to admire here.
Producer: Luigi Pira
The 2016 Barolo Vignarionda is an alluring beauty. Macerated cherry, rose petal, mint, blood orange and pomegranate all run through this exotic, arrestingly beautiful Barolo. The 2016 is dense, wonderfully perfumed and just striking Finesse and power come together beautifully, showing all the pedigree of this site.
Producer: Giuseppe Rinaldi
Surprisingly open for a young Rinaldi Barolo, the 2011 is round, spherical and supple. Leather, smoke and tobacco wrap around a plump, juicy core of dark Brunate fruit. The pedigree of Brunate comes to the fore with further time in bottle.
Producer: Giacomo Conterno
Here in its debut vintage at Conterno, the 2015 Barolo Arione is wonderfully aromatic and nuanced. The 2015 is a fascinating wine to follow over the next several decades.
Producer: Cavalier Lorenzo Accomasso
Cavalier Lorenzo Accomasso is one of the legend of Barolo, with a very recognisable imprinting and traditional style, Accomasso's wines are now very highly rated and keenly sought-after by connoisseurs and collectors worldwide.
